Support Services for Students at Fairmont Elementary School
The Fairmont Elementary School (FES) is committed to student success. Because some students may need extra support or help to be successful, FES offers several support programs. Below is a list of those programs, who qualifies for the program, and when for what grades the program is available. Contact Jim Davison, principal, for more information if you believe your son or daughter may benefit from these services or if you have questions about these services.
Title 1 ServicesThe Title 1 program is federally funded based on a school's Free and Reduced Lunch numbers. The amount of money the government gives the school determines how much support is available for students.
In FES the Title 1 program funds support for students in Grades 1 through 6 whose test scores show a need for reading or math help. In Grades 1-4, classroom aides and reading and math intervention are funded with Title 1 funds. In Grades 5-6, math and reading small group intervention is funded through Title 1 funds. While the support looks different in different grades, it is available through Grade 6.
Math and Reading Intervention
Math and reading intervention is funded by state and federal dollars. The amount of money available to the district determines how many students are part of this program.
Students in math and reading intervention are given a "second helping" of math or reading concepts for students in Grades 1 through 6 each day. Sometimes a foundational skill is missed and must be retaught. This reteaching of basic skills is part of math or reading intervention. Test scores determine if students enter or exit these programs.
All math and reading intervention students are Title 1 students, but not all Title 1 students are math and reading intervention students.
Targeted services is a program that exists outside the school day and builds missing skills needed for success in school. Extra paperwork is needed to be part of a targeted services program.
In general, FES has a daily morning math group for Grades 5 and 6 beginning at 8:00 am to 8:30 am. We have a morning HSAS group beginning at 7:45-8:15. We have a 5th and 6th Grade study skills and homework help group that meets two days per week from 3:15-4:00. This program begins later in the year.
